Geometrical asymptotics in General Relativity
byYannick Herfray
Abstract:In general relativity there are several classical notions of asymptotic flatness: In effect these amount to the possibility of “adding a boundary at infinity” to the curved spacetime. The exact procedure and geometry is however very different depending on whether one considers an asymptote in null, time-like, or space-like directions. I will show that these can nonetheless all be derived from one unique concept, curved obit decomposition of Cartan geometry, and that there is therefore a profound unity in these notions of asymptotics.
